Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. For a young Irish girl surrounded with gifted parents and extended families, these traits came as a normal. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin - Ireland, on 17 August 1920. Her mother, Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share in "The Shamrock Rovers" an eminent Irish soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen was a fan of rough and sporting games in her youth and was a pro in athletics. Furthermore she was gifted to act. This is why she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances within her own country. In the age of fourteen, she was admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing as well as classical theater.
